Bone Broth Recipe

Heavenly Bone Broth

We use bone broth all year round.  My slow cooker is on at least once a week brewing one of these tasty healthy broths.  It can be used as a digestive healing drink (on it's own) or as a base for soups and stews.  

Not only is the bone broth wonderfully nutrient dense, it also is full of collagen, glutamine, glycine, proline which help heal the cells lining of the digestive tract and reduce intestinal inflammation

When should I use a bone broth?

The simple answer is: ALL YEAR ROUND! 


What is Bone Broth good for?

  • Immune building
  • After a course of antibiotics to help balance the good and bad bacteria in the gut.
  • Healing your gut lining
  • Increasing absorption of nutrients
  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Decreasing symptoms of the gut disharmony including, reflux, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea
  • Also great postpartum - after birth to re-energise mum and boost milk supply

Bone Broth Recipe

  • 1/2 kg Beef, Chicken or Pork Bones ( or whatever fits in your slow cooker) 
  • 2 tbs Apple cider vinegar
  • Veg (usually whatever is in the cupboard/fridge) rough chopped.
  • I usually add 2-3 potato’s, an onion, a few slices of sweet potato, 2-3  carrots, 5 pepper corns, and a bay leaf, 1-2 stalks of celery if I have it)

Place bones in slow cooker pour over the apple cider vinegar, add veg and fill with filtered water. Place on high until warm then turn down to low for 24-48 hours.

Remove and strain off liquid (we usually use any meat and suitable veg).

Place liquid in fridge and when cooled scrape the hard layer of fat off the top. 

Place a cup of the now slightly gelatinous cooled stock into zip lock bag and flat pack into freezer, or use ice cube trays to freeze it.
